Read about storytelling across industries: Storytelling for data science: Scott Berinato writes that “Narrative is an extremely powerful human contrivance and one of the most underutilized in data science.” Read more in “Data Science and the Art of Persuasion.” Storytelling for marketing: Kimberly A. Whitler writes that “In addition to being an important strategic tool, storytelling can be an important tactical tool that lets marketers engage consumers in a fragmented media world.” Read about it in “3 Reasons Why Storytelling Should be a Priority for Marketers.” https://youtu.be/LerdMmWjU_E Storytelling for politics: https://youtu.be/tly8abRH4ws

Storytelling events:

MEET NYU STORYTELLING SUMMIT 2020
Exploring the Intersection of Storytelling and Inclusion
Thursday, September 17th | 9:15 am – 11:00 am
RSVP: https://connect.nyu.edu/register/?id=d22b1d13-e72f-4b5c-84cb-d2223a39df96

NYU is the University without Walls. Across our global university, we offer all students access to achievement. But to say “you are welcome here” is not enough. The story of NYU is as complex as the institution, and the need to represent our community and our audience both authentically and aspirationally has never felt more acute.

The second annual Enrollment Management Storytelling Summit will bring together writers, designers, media-makers, administrators and creative talent from across the University to explore how we tell the story of NYU.

This year’s summit will focus on inclusivity in our messaging, and the responsibility we all share in breaking down stereotypes, removing barriers to access, and amplifying stories of traditionally underrepresented students through our communications. Together we will analyze how we balance communicating the reality of our diverse environment with how we boldly live up to our values.

The event will culminate with a keynote address and Q&A with writer James McBride, author of the New York Times-best selling The Good Lord Bird, the number one-bestselling American classic, The Color of Water, Five-Carat Soul, Song Yet Sung, Miracle at St. Anna, Kill ‘Em and Leave, and Deacon King Kong. McBride was awarded a National Humanities Medal by President Obama “for humanizing the complexities of discussing race in America.”
