p dev week 4: 10k v.s. 10$

How can I develop this project with $10.000 in 10 months?

  • Buy jointer & planer……
  • For wood:
    • Buy all the scrap wood I could find (off cuts from big shops, pallets, etc.), join them into boards, mass produce with CNC. (keep any labeling, brands, metal pieces, and anything not wood visible in the final board) (aesthetic 1)
    • Buy/collect weirdly shaped smaller wood pieces in bulk, arrange them nicely and do a massive resin pour, put random variations into the arrangement, and even put actual objects into the resin pour. (aesthetic 2)
    • For pieces that are too small, shred them and reform into boards (aesthetic 3)
  • Acrylics: sort them by color, fix them into a board, arrange them as tight as possible, cut any pattern out of them as if they were new boards. (aesthetic 4+ & possible parodies)
  • Soft materials: try testing laminating them with epoxy and form them into slabs then use as normal.
  • Hire people to help me……
  • Do industrialized packaging and tolerance testing for all the pieces, make sure they are all the same size and weight as much as possible, and that they fit into the packaging perfectly without wobble. Maybe look into ways of securing them in the packaging (vacuum forming).
  • When my employees are doing those things, I can make the premium ones myself, with specialized wood (exotic woods, colored woods) and plastics and other materials (metal, concrete, fabrics). (also run them through the tolerance testing of course)

How can I develop this project with $10 in 10 days?

  • Shred wood (1 day)
  • Arrange wood/ acrylics in a geometric pattern (organized chaos) (2 days)
  • Pour resin (5 days)
  • CNC (2 days)
  • While laser/vinyl cut the packaging out (buy the whatever subscription on the packaging design website) (10$, 1 day)
  • And laser the eyepieces (half day)
