The effects of ionizing radiation on biological systems
The effects of ionizing radiation on biological systems
There are a number of opportunities for undergraduate research in theoretical/computational chemistry in my group. A particular focus is on understanding the effects of ionizing radiation on biological systems, including UV damage (direct & indirect) to DNA and Green Fluorescent Proteins. We use atomistic simulations that describe not only what happens to the atoms, but also what the electrons are doing in a chemical reaction. Some projects involve coding, while others are focused on applications.
Prerequisite
A strong interest in theoretical/computational chemistry. Should have enrolled or taken Foundations of Chemistry at least.
Preferred Time of Research
All year round is possible. Short-term summer projects are also available.
Weekly Commitment
Flexible, subject to mutual agreement.
Location
NYUSH
Paid?
Yes, paid positions are available only over winter/summer breaks. 1,000 RMB/month.
