Introduction
New York City is a haven for pet lovers, it offers a unique blend of urban living and animal companionship. With approximately 600,000 dogs and 500,000 cats residing in city, pets are becoming integral to the city’s fabric. New Yorkers are also known for pampering their pets, despite of seeing a great number of people having their pets with them on the streets, over half spending more on grooming than on their own self-care. Additionally, many celebrate their pets’ birthdays and holidays, underscoring the deep bond between residents and their furry friends. In modern urban environments, such as New York City, pets have evolved from being simple companions to integral members of many households.
With its fast-paced lifestyle, crowded spaces, and constant influx of diverse populations, New York presents a unique backdrop for examining how pets influence the lives of city dwellers. As more people treat their pets as family members, the question arises: how do these animals impact the daily routines, emotional well-being, and social interactions of their owners? This project seeks to explore the role pets play in the everyday lives of New Yorkers.
