Dear NYU Art Therapy Family,
I am writing this letter, with a mixture of many emotions, to share with you my decision to step down from the Director’s position of the Art Therapy program at NYU as of August 31, 2022.
It has been 44 years (really?) since I first discovered and became “hooked” on the field of art therapy as a bright-eyed student. Although the roles that I played in the NYU Art Therapy Program during these years are different, my affinity for and fascination toward this field never faded or changed, but rather it became an integral part of who I am.
I feel so fortunate to have had such precious opportunities to have gotten to know all of you, and allowed me to share my deep passion with such willingness and openness. I believe that you are the ones who helped me to discover my strengths and assets that I didn’t know I had and shaped me to become a better teacher.
I now look forward to having a life without unnecessary structure but to be always connected with some form of creativity, beauty, and new discoveries. This does not mean that I am running off to some exotic island with flowers in my hair, so I will still be contactable and seeable.
With much love and gratitude!!
Ikuko
Art therapist at the very core of my heart
