To give you a glimpse into OPUS, we created spotlights featuring our e-board and writers. First up, we have YiLin Lee!
What compelled you to submit to OPUS?
“I wanted to target my writing skills because I wasn’t very confident in them. OPUS provided me with a structure to receive feedback specific to my papers.”
What was the editing experience like?
“The editing experience was difficult at times due to varying writing styles, but for me, receiving edits and comments from multiple people allowed me to understand the difference between having my own writing style and writing unclarity.”
What was your paper about?
“My first piece with OPUS (Spring 2019) is titled “Groupthink as a System of the Decision-Making Process” which used the United States Congress as a case study to understand the conditions that make groups vulnerable to groupthink. In Fall 2019, I published my independent study conducted under Dr. Schick, titled “Fostering the Home-School Connection in the Middle School Years”. This paper was a qualitative study exploring the parent and teacher perceptions of the relation between families and schools.”
What did you gain from this experience?
“Not only was I able to work on my writing, but due to the nature of the process, I formed close relationships with the editors and other writers published in the issue.”
What tips do you have for future writers?
“Receiving feedback on your writing can be quite intimidating, but just remember that Dr. Schick and the editors are there to help you improve and write a cohesive paper that you would be proud of. No one is there to tear you down, everyone is there to help you publish!”
Would you recommend this experience to others and why?
“Yes! It definitely is hard work and requires you put in the time outside of your regular workload, but it is such a rewarding experience to work with your peers and end in a publication. Also, the entire experience helps to build your confidence towards your writing (and APA), and create close relationships with the people you’ve worked with the entire semester.”

Nice post. I learn something totally new and challenging on websites I stumbleupon everyday. It’s always useful to read through content from other authors and use a little something from other websites.
This is a great tip particularly to those fresh to the blogosphere. Short but very accurate info… Thank you for sharing this one. A must read post!
I quite like reading an article that can make people think. Also, thanks for permitting me to comment.
