Nature vs. Nurture? This is a greatly debated question in psychology, i.e., whether human behaviors and personalities are influenced under the environment or if they are determined at birth. While genetics determines eye color, hair color, and height, such physical properties are hardly to be changed permanently. Yet, how one behaves can be affected. The human outlines resemble inherited traits while the bamboo growing resembles potential growth under the influence of outside factor.

This piece is created under the story of Aung San Suu Kyi, a female activist in Myanmar. Her actions revealed braveness, determination, as well as patriotism, which reflects one of the important themes in psychology, that behaviors are influenced by multi-factors, including the environment, culture and heredity.

This piece is an example of visual illusion – when our vision deceives us. Due to color constancy, there is a difference in size of the two figures even though the two figures are actually the same size.
