Walden Bello is International Adjunct professor of Sociology at Binghamton University, Co-Chairperson of the Bangkok-based research and advocacy institute Focus on the Global South, and chair of the progressive coalition Laban ng Masa..He previously was a professor of sociology at the University of the Philippines. For his scholarship and activism, he received the Right Livelihood Award (aka Alternative Nobel Prize) in 2003 and was named Outstanding Public Scholar by the International Studies Association in 2008. Also active in parliamentary politics, he was a member of the Philippines’ House of Representatives from 2009 to 2015, heading up that institution’s Committee on Overseas Workers’ Affairs.He is the author or co-author of 25 books, the most recent of which are Counterrevolution: The Global Rise of the Far Right(2019) and Paper Dragons: China and the Next Crash (2019).
