In this article in Forbes magazine, CALA instructor Clayton Press reviews a two-person exhibition at the Museo Jumex which marks the first time that Marchel Duchamp and Jeff Koons have had a retrospective exhibition in Mexico. The exhibition traces the trajectory of the readymade to the facsimile. Rather than draw a direct relationship between the two artists, the exhibition invites viewers to compare and reflect on each artist’s impact on art history, conceptualism, and public identity. Press provides us with an overview of the exhibition and an interesting history and contextualization of both Marchel Duchamp and Jeff Koons (who as of the May 15th sale at Christie’s is the world’s most expensive living artist).
This summer, Clayton Press is teaching two courses:
Latin American Art: From Columbus to the Present
The Art Market: How it Works (the Unvarnished Truth)
Other art history courses can be found here.
