Hello all. Here are our picks for you this week. Stay home and stay safe!
Jazz: Abdullah Ibrahim & Ekaya from the Heineken Jazzaldia, 2011
Calm your nerves with thanks to Abdullah Ibrahim, South African pianist and composer. His music reflects many of the musical influences of his childhood in the multicultural port areas of Cape Town, ranging from traditional African songs to the gospel of the AME Church and ragas, to more modern jazz and other Western styles.
Slow Art:
Slow Art is an international movement that encourages people look deeply at one or a few pieces of art rather than what we often see at a museum or gallery: people trying to see as much as they can take in. Slow art is really the polar opposite – it’s about taking time, lingering and really feeling the piece. Now that many of us have more time let’s take advantage. This year, through this beautiful video created by the Portland Museum of Art (PMA) and local production company P3, we invite you to experience Slow Art Day from home. Relax, center yourself, and revel in the pleasure of art through close looking at works in the PMA exhibition by Carrie Moyer and Sheila Pepe:Tabernacles for Trying Times, which opening this past February.
