Hello all. Here are our picks for you this week. Stay home and stay safe!
Solo Performance: Andrea Bocelli
On Sunday (April 12, 2020), by invitation of the City and of the Duomo cathedral of Milan, Italian global music icon Andrea Bocelli gave a solo performance representing a message of love, healing and hope to Italy and the world. This is beautiful:
Theater: Phoebe Waller-Bridge COVID-19 Fundraiser
Before Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s “Fleabag” became a BBC series, an Emmy winner and a gift to gifs and hot priest memes, it was a solo stage show. A tale of a cheeky, devastated, sexually compulsive London woman, written by and starring Waller-Bridge, it played the Edinburgh Fringe in 2013 and returned last spring for Off Broadway and West End runs.
The play reappeared on Friday via London’s Soho Theater and Amazon Prime Video, where a filmed version has been made available for rent as a fundraiser for health charities and arts support.
Dance: Soledad Barrio & Noche Flamenca

“As part of an initiative to keep the arts alive and bring an outlet to people throughout this difficult time, we have decided to share some of our work with you for the next upcoming weeks. Everything will be posted on our social media and available for anyone who wants to watch. This week Noche Flamenca will be streaming two pieces of work that were performed at the Cherry Lane Theatre.
The first piece is performed by Salva de María on guitar and sung by Emilio Florido, Manuel Gago, and Miguel Rosendo.
The second piece is a Siguiriya solo dance performance by Soledad Barrio.”
Classical Music & Humor: Erik Satie
Literature: American Harvest
American Harvest by Marie Mutsuki Mockett is a beautifully written book about one woman’s experience across “the divide,” a tribute to the complicated and nuanced history of the United States and its people. The Center for Fiction presents Mockett, joined in conversation by author Marlon James and Juston Wolgemuth, the son of one of the evangelical Christian farmers who harvest wheat on the Mockett family’s Nebraska farm.
