We would like to extend a special invitation to you to join us on October 11th at 1pm for a free catered lunch and a discussion of Red-Tails in Love: Pale Male’s Story—A True Wildlife Drama in Central Park by Marie Winn. Our conversation about Central Park’s most famous resident will take place in the context of a global debate about humanity’s threat to the environment as well as a recent study determining that North America has lost 29 percent of its bird population since 1970.

This book discussion, led by author and instructor Jan Clausen , marks the official launch of a new and free Reading and Discussion series co-organized with Humanities New York. Other books in the series include:
October 21st: Winter in the Blood by James Welch (6pm)
November 8th: Angle of Repose by Wallace Stegner (1pm)
November 14th: An Unreasonable Woman by Diane Wilson (6pm)
Our discussions will engage with perspectives that capture the complicated relationship Americans have with the land and living things around them. Throughout the series, we’ll be asking how each book speaks to our current sense of urgency around environmental issues in a time of cascading threats to the planet we call home. While looking at the four books in sequence offers an especially rich experience, participants are welcome to attend as few or as many sessions as desired. Questions about the program can be directed to Alicia Kubes at alicia.kubes@nyu.edu or 212-998-7033.
