Many thanks to everyone who came out on a chilly Tuesday last week to attend the opening of the first annual CALA Artists Group Show. For over 20 years, NYU SPS has offered non-credit courses in studio art and photography that are open to all and have been attended by students from all over the world.
This particular show features artwork from recent courses in all types of media ranging from paintings, collages, drawings, and linocuts to photographs. It celebrates art as a tool for self-expression and as a means for enhancing our lives. These artists demonstrate that is never too early or too late to follow the creative spirit and learn something new.
The works are accompanied by quotes from the artists giving us insight into their inspiration. The show is on view through March 30th on the 8th floor of the NYU Kimmel Center for University Life, 60 Washington Square South.
Featured faculty in the show and the courses they are teaching this spring:
Kay Kenny Advanced Photography: Mastering Camera and Image and In Print: Creating and Designing a Photographic Exhibit as a Book
Lynn Saville Photographing New York City from Remarkable Locations
Lawrence Wheatman Creative Smartphone Photography: Turn Your Photos Into Art
Claire Rosenfeld Drawing and Painting with Mixed Media
A big thank you to faculty mentor Meera Thompson Drawing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the staff at CALA and NYU Kimmel, and all the artists who participated in the show: Akiva Miller, Fumiko Katsuki, Eric Sacco, Hong Zhang, Joe Fitzgerald, Maria Kalantzi, Melanie Wyremski, Michelle Meged, Pallavi Rao, Robyn Berland, Samuel Tony, Wiafe Mensah-Bonsu, Henry Seltzer.
