After 20 years as the New Jersey Star-Ledger’s film critic, Stephen Whitty recently filed his last review—this one a review of his time at the paper (read the full article here). During his tenure he interviewed many illustrious directors and actors, including Martin Scorsese, the Coen Brothers, Kirk Douglas, Lauren Bacall, and Sophia Loren; covered much of the New Jersey film scene ranging from the Montclair Film Festival to the historic treasure of the Landmark Loew’s Jersey City Theater; and wrote over 5,000 film reviews. A much valued CALA faculty member, this semester Whitty will be teaching The Hollywood Blacklist: Onscreen and hosting a screening of Breaker Morant on Friday, May 4th in conjunction with the spring film series From the Other Side: Foreign War Films.
