NYU alumni hit the ground running at the start of this year’s film festival circuit. In, “18 Women Filmmakers on Gender and Representation in Hollywood,” Buzzfeed’s Jarett Wieselman asked 18 directors, with new work at SXSW in Austin, Texas to comment on the state of the industry. Highlighted here are two of those women – both of whom directed and wrote comedies. Janicza Bravo, director of Lemon, spent half her life in Panama and half in Brooklyn. She studied directing, and design for theater, at NYU’s Playwrights Horizons Theater School.
NYU alumna and recent graduate of the Tisch film school, Laura Terruso, had a big hit at South by South West last year with Hello, My Name is Doris (which she co-wrote with Michael Showalter), and is following it this season as the director and writer of Fits & Starts starring Wyatt Cenac and Greta Lee.
