In this week’s CALA faculty news, Michael Zam will be a speaker at the BroadwayCon panel “From Page to Stage” on Friday at 3pm. Shows like War Paint, Fun Home, and Little Women were all inspired by books. The panel will discuss how books can spark the creative process, the challenges basing a new work on an existing title, and how producers and playwrights discern which books might adapt well for the stage. This semester at NYUSPS, Michael Zam is teaching Strange Bedfellows: Politics and Passion in the Movies , Writing the TV Pilot , and The Writer’s Room .
Broadway manager and instructor of the NYUSPS course The Business of Broadway, Mitch Weiss, will also be at BroadwayCon hosting the panel Producing 101 on the day-to-day responsibilities of producers and Love is Company (Managers!) on the role of mangers in the success of a show.
Finally, fashion historian Ya’ara Keydar Luft is curator of the exhibit “A Walk of Art: Visionary Shoes”, which opens tonight at the Parasol Projects Gallery at 208 Bowery. The opening reception will take place 6 to 9pm and the exhibit will be on display through February 13th daily from 11am to 7pm. The show focuses on conceptual, artistic, and extreme footwear and aims to reevaluate the occult power and mystery of shoes. Through more than 60 extraordinary examples, all created by the distinguished alumni and students of Israel’s most prestigious academy – the Bezalel Academy, A Walk Of Art treads the line between art and fashion. Luft teaches Fashion in Museums at NYUSPS.
