From January 27th through the 29th, The Jacob Javitz center will host BroadwayCon, the annual event that brings together Broadway fans with the shows they love and the people who bring them to life. This year, CALA instructor Mitch Weiss will moderate two panels:
Producing 101 – a lineup of Broadway producers discuss their day-to-day responsibilities, their passion projects, and their tough business decisions
Love is Company (Managers!) – From contracts to creative planning, managers are an important driving force of a successful environment for performers and crew.
Weiss is a Broadway manager who has worked on/with A Chorus Line, The Grapes of Wrath, Golden Child, Beauty and the Beast, Song of Jacob Zulu, Disenchanted!, Disney Theatricals-International, New York Shakespeare Festival, Big Apple Circus, and many more. He is the co-author of the definitive guide The Business of Broadway. In Spring 2017, he is teaching The Business of Broadway at NYUSPS, a course which introduces students to all the steps of putting on a show from rehearsals to promotional plans and includes a backstage tour of a hit Broadway show.
BroadwayCon 2017 will also feature artists from A Bronx Tale, Bandstand, Frozen, Hamilton, Significant Other, War Paint, In Transit, The Great Comet, Waitress, School of Rock, Newsies, Dear Evan Hansen, Once On This Island, Hedwig, Fiddler on the Roof, Phantom of the Opera, A New Brain, Wicked, Allegiance, Grease, Cinderella, If/Then, Something Rotten!, Rent, and many more.
