Leading up to the inauguration of new president Andrew Hamilton on Sunday, NYU hosted a wide range of events this week celebrating NYU’s innovative programs and global community. One of these events brought the Center for Applied Liberal Arts together with the NYU Production Lab to explore the impact of graphic design and visual effects on contemporary filmmaking. From feature films like Iron Man and Tree of Life to commercials for pharmaceutical companies, faculty members Erol Gunduz, Gavin Guerra, Misha Zabranska, and Bradley Friedman talked about their experiences as animators, directors, and visual effects supervisors. President Hamilton and other visitors were able to see creative examples of virtual reality, visual effects, and 3D printed designs made by NYU faculty and alumni, including Elizabeth A DeAngelis (elizabethdeangelis.weebly.com), Yangyi Liu, and Sarat Kollimarla (www.skollimarla.com)
President Hamilton’s inauguration will be streamed live on Sunday at 11am here.
Currently, the Center of Applied Liberal Arts offers a Diploma in 3D Design and 3D Printing as well as noncredit courses in motion graphics, graphic design, 3D design/fabrication, filmmaking and producing, and interior design.
