On April 28th, students in T Lawrence Wheatman’s Mastering the Art ofStreet Photography class presented their work at the SohoPhoto Gallery in Tribeca. For each class session, students met in a different neighborhood in New York and documented what they saw around them. The exhibit presents the unique perspective of each artist, as they stand together in the same place at the same time, capturing different details and moods of the city.
For Alia Avidan, a first-time photographer, the class was an opportunity to pursue a long-time interest and cultivate her creativity.
Alain Licari , a photographer and educator from France (now living and working in NYC) who works primarily in black-and-white, explored the influence that color had on the composition of his photos, changing his focus and illuminating subtleties. You can see more of his work here
Congratulations from CALA to all students on a truly creative, inspiring, and evocative show!

Rosy Coffee says
When they say, “A picture is worth a thousand words,” I think it rings even truer for photographs. Whenever you look at a photo, there are so many emotions evoked. If you yourself took the picture, you might be looking at a nice memory. If you’re looking at a nice black and white still photo, you might look to find some meaning in it. There are different meanings for different people and that’s what’s really beautiful about it.
