Bio: Philip Habel is Lecturer in Politics at the University of Glasgow since 2013, having previously been Assistant then Associate Professor at Southern Illinois University. His work in collaboration with colleagues in Computing Science is examining patterns of information dissemination and information leadership, with applications to the 2014 Scottish Independence Referendum and the 2015 British General Election. A recent paper shows that one can predict Twitter user’s vote intentions on the Scottish Independence Referendum based on the substantive content of their Tweets. A current project explores agenda setting and information flows across different categories of Twitter users, be it journalists, academics, politicians, and citizens.
