NYU Silver is distinguished by the strong sense of community among our students, faculty, staff, and alumni, who are united by a commitment to service and social justice.

Our Office of Inclusive Engagement and Student Life fosters that culture by providing opportunities for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students to get involved outside of the classroom, develop inclusive leadership skills, and make meaningful connections. IESL also advises student groups, manages transition events, including new student orientation and graduation celebrations, and promotes socio-emotional resources.

In the past year, IESL introduced a number of first-time programs and activities, including those below, to nurture and empower our student body.

Academic Year 2022-2023 IESL Highlights include:

IESL launched “The Breakfast Club,” a year-long series of interactive leadership workshops designed to help students develop the confidence, knowledge, and interpersonal skills needed to be leaders at Silver and the wider community. Over a bagel buffet, attendees learned about topics including promoting inclusive leadership practices, cultivating healthy boundaries, and building better habits.

Recognizing that students’ success would not be possible without the care and encouragement of their family and loved ones, IESL held virtual webinars on “Supporting Your Student” for parents, partners, children, friends, and others in our BS and MSW students’ support systems.

IESL also supported Silver’s first-ever student art exhibition, titled “Multitudes,” which was conceived and curated by Sadie Zuch, MSW ’24. Featuring paintings, photographs, prints, drawings, ceramics, and other media by 15 student artists, the exhibition celebrated the vibrancy, complexity, and beauty of our student community.

IESL held the first-ever school-wide “Student Appreciation Week,” featuring events including a puppy party, ice cream social, and the “Kindness Rocks” project, where students designed and created inspirational messages and affirmations to share with other members of the Silver community.

As the year came to a close, first generation Silver bachelors, masters and doctoral graduates were celebrated by Silver community members and loved ones at a “Proud to be First” reception hosted by IESL and featuring remarks from Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Linda Lausell Bryant.
