Final Project: Three Project Proposals

Project 1: Saving Hangman

The first project that I’m interested in is from the video game genre. The video game genre is already very fun and engaging so this would be a good genre to start my project on. I want to be able to use take the game Hangman, which is a word guessing game and add an additional interaction to it. Usually, in Hangman, the user is guessing different letters to find out what the hidden word is. I want to make this part more interactive by having the user pick a letter through a physical interaction. The physical interaction I want to add is that there are random letters floating on the screen. The user needs to catch the letter that they want to guess. The Hangman will also be displayed on the monitor. My project is trying to make the game Hangman more interactive and fun because Hangman is a game that everyone knows how to play and it would be interesting to see a unique twist on it.

Project 2: Creating Sound Waves

The second project that I’m interested in exploring is drawing sound waves. This topic is related to physics and sound waves. Every sound wave is a frequency which can be represented by a sin or cos wave. This is project, I want the user to draw a wave, and then the sound would be played. This topic is engaging because sound is something we usually hear and not see, but with this project we can visualize sound by creating it. The wave can be drawn using a physical interaction method and displayed on a monitor. Then the sound of the wave is played. The audience for this project would be those who are interested in sound. The project is trying to accomplish a different perspective of sound for the user because sound isn’t visualized in our normal lives.

Project 3: Hopping in real life

The third project I’m interested in is exploring is another idea from the video game genre. For this project, the idea is based on the hopper games where you have to cross a street/river by hopping one step at a time. There are obstacles in the way which need to be avoided by moving up down left or right. The interaction for this game would be is that the user needs to move up down left or right to move the character in the game. This project can be done by using a motion detector sensors on the floor that can detect where the user is stepping on. When they step on a direct, their character moves that direction. My project is trying to find a physical way of interacting with video games to make the video game more engaging.
