Is this program free?
SHARE-CSD is a completely free opportunity! Students will not be required to pay any fees to apply or participate in the program. Travel to and from NYC will be covered and housing will be provided in an NYU Dorm. Additionally, participants will receive a $3600 stipend to support their expenses during the six weeks.
How many students will be selected to participate in SHARE-CSD?
Each summer we will be inviting 12 students to participate in the summer program.
What kind of research will the students conduct?
Research topics will depend on which faculty participate each summer. Projects can vary from novel research to re-testing known phenomena.
Each summer, we offer 3-4 lab projects and accept 12 interns. While we strive to match students with their preferred labs, not all students will be placed in their top choice. We encourage all interns to keep an open mind and be flexible in exploring different research opportunities.
How much experience in communicative sciences and disorders and related fields and knowledge is required?
Students should be interested in communication sciences and disorders, or similar fields like neuroscience, psychology, linguistics, etc. You are not required to be majoring in these fields, just to have taken some courses and to have demonstrated strong interest.
Do I need prior research experience to be able to apply?
No, applicants do not need prior research experience or specific skills to be considered for this internship. In fact, one of the primary goals of this program is to provide valuable, paid research experience to undergraduate students who may not have access to, or opportunities for, CSD research at their current institutions.
What is the time commitment for this program?
The summer program will take place for six weeks. The exact dates for the program in 2025 are June 2, 2025 to July 11, 2025.
When are applications due? When will I be notified if I have been accepted to the program?
The 2025 SHARE-CSD application is due on February 13, 2025. All participants will be notified by March 30, 2025.
Can I apply for the program if I have a valid student visa? Who is eligible to apply?
Unfortunately, you are not eligible. We must abide by the NIH regulations, which require that participants be US citizens or permanent residents. Applicants to SHARE-CSD must be:
- US citizens or non-citizen permanent residents
- Current undergraduates
I’m worried my recommendation may not be submitted before the deadline; will this affect my application in any way?
No. We first encourage you to submit the question portion of your application as soon as possible.
However, in order to fully evaluate your application, we would like to review your recommendation. Using the application portal, you can send reminders to your recommender to submit their recommendation.
I’m from NYC (or nearby), do I still get a dorm?
Yes! The SHARE-CSD summer program provides all 12 students with housing in the NYU dorms. We place SHARE students in the dorms to have close access to campus, as the programming requires students to be on campus from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm on average. In addition to the technical and professional development skills you will gain during the program, the relationships and time spent with your cohort are equally beneficial.
A course I want to take is taking place at the same time as the summer program. Is it possible to take a course during the summer program?
Unfortunately, you can not take a course during the summer program. The summer program is an intensive six weeks, where students are constantly engaged in coursework, research, and programmatic activities. While the workload is manageable, it is discouraged to have any other commitments.
Can I work (remotely, research, etc) during the summer program?
Unfortunately, you can not work during the summer program. We recognize students may have a financial need during the summer months and the program offers a $3600 stipend.

What happens if I have a medical emergency while at NYU?
The Student Health Center is available to all students for urgent care. Routine care, such as a standard doctor’s appointment, is NOT available. SHC services may not be covered by a student’s private insurance policy. All students must have health insurance that meets the minimum threshold of coverage in New York City. All students are encouraged to carry their health insurance cards at all times in case of emergency.
While Non-degree program students do technically have access to NYU Health and Wellness while on campus, they provide limited services.
We encourage students to have discussions about emergency plans and location preferences of hospitals (and other necessary resources) in case of various kinds of health and wellness issues with their families. This information can be shared with us before they arrive in New York so that we can be prepared as well.
