Week 13
My project aims at realizing data set onto the textured tree shape like the branches in order to visualize detailed information using the physical characteristics of trees. However, this happens especially during the texture stage where it is critical to transform complex data into an understandable way. When I chose the Covid-19 data set and started to think about some daily life objects I couldn’t exactly relate what I should write about but then suddenly when I was recalling my covid-19 experiences – I recalled the tree which I used to see everyday for hours during lockdown
Thinking about what is Critical Making (Ratto et al.), my project deals with “materializing” data and engenders a tactile interaction that instigates critical engagement and dialogue. This visualization tries to say something deep, evoking discussions regarding the nature and how does it represent the covid 19 itself for instance, the COVID-19 pandemic. Particularly I think that this reading was very interesting to shape my perspective as it helps us to think in a critical manner and it also helps in conceptual development to be critical. The reading was very interesting to me for another reason too because I think my brain was used to think in a different way but this helped me to take my thinking into a different way.
Texture and radius battle are the manifestation of general struggle with the attempt to transform quantitative indications into qualitative experiences. In my journey ahead, I will integrate algorithmic precision with artistic interpretations, making sure the tree expresses data in the most factual yet provoking ways possible. For the materials, I envision utilizing organic substances such as wood to emphasize the natural progression if we had those materials present at school as it demonstrates the spread of the virus. Alternatively, synthetic materials like plastic in 3D printing could denote the human-made aspect of data aggregation and interpretation.
The data set I decided to use earlier was too large and now I am using the cases of covid only in Asia instead of the world and I will be using the data accessed through Kaggle
I have shared the link for the data below : https://www.kaggle.com/datasets/vivek468/asia-covid-19-cases-updated-10-oct-21/data
