Three pieces of advice about transition to NYU Shanghai:
- I think language is really important for freshman students especially for those non-native speakers. Only when we solve language problem then can we communicate well with others and learn a lot in classes.
- I think students should practice studying by themselves. Universities are not like high schools so then have to know how to study by themselves and study with classmates. Also, they have to know how to ask questions. Learning is actually a process for asking questions.
- I think freshman students have to get used to different cultures. NYU Shanghai is a university which has many students from different backgrounds. So if they can accept different cultures then they can have a happy life here.
Three pieces of advice for being academically successful:
- Come to class every time. Students shouldn’t think class is useless. Actually in class we not only learn knowledge but also we learn how to think.
- Learn to use resources in our university such as ARC or ATS and so on. in daily life students might meet some problems because of homework. They have to be familiar to GAFs and assists in campus.
- Students need to communicate more with their professors after class. Office hours is really useful for everyone.
