NYU supports two video conference tools for synchronous learning (learning that happens at the same time for the instructor and the learners, meaning that there’s real-time interaction between them.) — NYU Zoom, and NYU Meet (which was called Google Hangouts until recently.)
Because of the social nature of synchronous learning, students can easily interact with instructors and other fellow students, making group activities possible. Immediate feedback is another benefit of synchronous learning, during which ideas and opinions can be promptly shared. However, instructors and students all have to follow a rigid schedule when delivering live lectures, and there might be some technical difficulties which prevent the online participants to get the best learning experience. Therefore, it is recommended that faculty integrate asynchronous ways of instructions with synchronous instructions.
