The demand to produce online instructional videos asks faculty to equip themselves with the knowledge to design and transform their physical classes into a digital format, as well as incorporating interactive elements to keep the virtual class being fresh and engaging.
Mobile Studio
Instructors can easily set up a video production studio using their personal computer or phone devices at home. Together with proper lighting setup, a quiet environment, and functional video and audio capturing devices, unique class materials can be created for students to learn. Learn More
NYU Stream
NYU Stream is a platform that provides the NYU community with a great number of media tools. It facilitates content sharing, collaborative communications, as well as a repository to store your audio, video, and images files. Media being uploaded on NYU Stream can be shared via multiple platforms such as NYU Classes (faculty only), Web Publishing, Google Sites, as well as any other website that you have publishing rights. Instructors can also use tools like Express Capture and Kaltura Capture to produce videos. Learn More
NYU Zoom
Instructors can also use Zoom to record educational videos. The recordings are cloud-based and downloadable. But be aware that the video resolution will not be as clear as other tools, and the instructors shall still use NYU Stream to upload media files and share them with students via NYU Classes. VoiceThread
VoiceThread is an asynchronous multimedia presentation and discussion tool that allows users to contribute “posts” around a central piece of content. VoiceThread uses voice recording, webcam recordings, annotation, and other features to encourage student engagement and exchange. Watch this video for an overview.
*The main difference between VoiceThread and Kaltura Capture is that VoiceThread is a cloud-based application integrated into NYU Classes, while Kaltura Capture requires the installation of a desktop app before recording. Users also need to take an extra step to generate a video sharing link or embed code before sharing the video with students. Learn More
Share Recorded Content with Students
Instructors using VoiceThread for content creation will be able to share content with students directly from the interface.
If you are using other tools to create video content, you can upload the content to NYU Stream and share it via NYU Brightspace.
