Why can’t I see my course recordings in NYU Zoom?

Most online or blended courses will offer class recordings in NYU Zoom. You can access these recordings under the “Zoom” section in NYU Brightspace. However, you may encounter the issue below saying that “You cannot view this recording, no permission”.
This issue might result from your inappropriate way of signing in your Zoom account. In other words, you are using your personal Zoom account rather than an NYU Zoom account.Check the status of your account on the profile page. 

  1. Refer to Arrow No.1, a personal zoom account will just show a Zoom logo, while an NYU Zoom account will show the NYU Logo.
  2. Refer to Arrow No.2, a personal zoom account will show that User Type is “Basic”, while an NYU Zoom account will show “Licensed”.
  3. Refer to Arrow No.3, a personal zoom account will show a mailbox icon, while an NYU Zoom account will show an SSO icon.
How to correctly sign in your Zoom account?  
If you haven’t activated the NYU Zoom account yet, to activate your NYU Zoom account, go to nyu.zoom.us —> Login to Zoom.If you still have trouble during the login, then it is likely that your NYU NetID email address is used for both the regular Zoom account and the NYU Zoom account, the Zoom system is confused thus pending your NYU Zoom account activation.To solve this problem, please follow the steps below:

  1. You have to free your netID email address from the regular Zoom account. To do so, please sign in to https://zoom.us/ sign in with your netID email (not SSO option) as Email address and your own Password. If you forget your password, you could use Forget Password function to reset it.
  2. After signing in, go to Profile, change your sign-in email to one other than the netID email address and save the changes.
  3. After the change is done, please go to https://nyu.zoom.us/ and use the third option to log in again, it should work this time.

With the correct NYU Zoom account signed in, you should be able to view the recordings on your NYU Brightspace course site.

Sign in your NYU Zoom account on your Zoom client
Instead of using the NYU email username and password, you need to choose the Sign in with the SSO option on your Zoom client.You should then type in the company domain “nyu,” and continue logging in through the SSO authentication.
