Photo Diptych Concept Ideas

Concept 1: Life vs Death

  • Main concept is to show the idea of “death creating life”
  • Unedited Photo: Flowers, plants, has dirt/roots in the shot, brighter/cheerful lighting/colors
  • Edited Photo: Image manipulated to look like skull/bones/skeleton underground with the flowers/plants rooted in/growing from it
    • Using edited photos of flowers/plants to create impression of skull? Because of lack of access to actual skulls
    • Photos of sequins/crystalline objects to put alongside the skull impression to act as minerals to further convey a sense of being underground?
    • October 28th: school is holding a halloween event, has a haunted house, might be able to get photos of bones/skeletons/skulls/generally rotting creepy stuff. Hopefully no time crunch issue
    • I have a cast of my teeth. Is sufficiently bone-like and can be incorporated into the photo.
  • Effect: Unedited photo shows the plain view of how people generally view the concept of life (good, bright, etc.), then using the composite photo to show the more abstract concept of how said “good, bright” things grow from death/rot (things generally considered bad).

Concept 2: Edited vs Unedited

  • Main concept is to explore how similar/different edited vs unedited photos can be
  • Unedited Photo: Using lighting effects (similar to one seen in slides) to hopefully create the illusion that it’s a composited photo. Preferably from a strange angle to further create a sense of weirdness/surrealism. Exact subject still undecided.
  • Edited Photo: Using various pieces of photos and tools in photoshop to composite a photo that hopefully looks realistic, using a different, more common/sensible angle of the same subject(s).
  • Effect: If executed well, it should be able to create an interesting juxtaposition of the composite looking “real” photo and the realistic looking “fake” photo
