Crumb Catcher Sketch Modeling
Prior to beginning the physical build of the invention, I first drew up some sketches of how I wanted the the product to work.
This image shows the system I used to get the piece to move around on two dimensions. Using something kind of like a rail in both a lateral and vertical direction, I was able to achieve movement in the model.
I, then, realized there were some issues with the stability of the rail so I added some brackets along the outside to keep the rails in line with each other. Once I got that to work, I created the piece that would be moving and catching the crumbs. I had some candles and took of the pointy part to use as an axis of rotation for the disk. I then attached that to a larger disk and tested the two parts together.
Once I saw that general mechanisms were working, I worked to enhance the existing pieces by gluing the sides together and strengthening the rails.
Finally, I added a top part with a box below it that would fit a distance sensor to detect the distance between the person and the plate.
Aesthetics wise, I think the mode could have been better but overall, I am happy with the capabilities of the mechanism.
