Dyson

Dyson seems like a well spoken inventor. I appreciate his manner of thinking, regarding how his background as a designer allowed him to take a less ventured path and become an inventor. I also think that his background and story regarding the trials and failures in creating and selling his product sounds similar to what one might find in other tech companies. But in that process, he makes a point that I think is interesting, in relating himself to the retailers and his first consumers, in how they were all willing to take a risk on something new. His method for designing also resonated with me in the way he describes his multiple trial and thousands of prototypes. He talks about the path of discovery in doing so , finding out what does work and what doesn’t work, and understanding why. While he previous claimed his path is distinct from that of a scientist, this very method of experimenting is the way scientist are supposed to conduct experiments, with controlled variables, dependent variable, and one singular independent variable. Nonetheless, I appreciate this method of experimentation and think that the process of learning from the specifics of what works and what doesn’t work is important and useful. My family owns various Dyson products.

The first product I believe I recall was one of their bladeless fans from many years back. I think the design and concept of which was very interesting and made me want to enjoy the product. However, I think I had some issues with the strength of the cooling or heating of the product. Other than this issues I would say the product is fairly impressive in that it does work, just perhaps not to the extend that I would prefer. I think the design is visually appealing and like the small details like the magnet that holds the remote, which is curved to match the curvature of the top. While I am not sure if it is this model, I attached an image of one of their fans below.

The next product we have is the Dyson Supersonic which we purchased many years ago. My brother mentioned the hairdryer and there was a sale one day, so my dad purchased one. At the time I had never heard of the hair dryer, but my brother and dad knew that the Supersonic would be quieter and more powerful and less damaging to the hair. Since then I haven’t used a different hairdryer. I think the dryer is still loud, but not to the extent of other hairdryers. The magnetic part for the accessories, such as a diffuser, also makes the transition easier and allows for the hairdryer to maintain a sleek appearance. I think that recently, the Dyson hair appliances have become very popular on social media and I think that most of those claims are well grounded, however, I have not yet used the Dyson Airwap or their other hair related products.
