Concept and Design

When I watched the music video for daft punk, I picked up some points which I liked. Firstly it was based in space, and they were playing musical instruments. The goal was to somehow incorporate these two elements and make them into an abstract typographical image. the first thing I did was make the background black to resemble space. In the beginning of the song , it starts of very soft then it gets louder and louder as the song plays on. This creates a sense of depth as if the music is coming from a far away place. In my final image I used figure and ground to make the image more balance between positive and negative. I also wanted to utilize all the space that was offered.  There is also similarity present within the image as I have repeated the use of the letters like “m” and “o” . The circular shape of the “o” to me resembles a mouth and maybe it is a mouth that is singing. When looking at the image the eyes are first drawn to the bottom of the page and they work they’re way up to read what is going on.

Process

As stated in the beginning I started off with a black background. The challenge to build this image was finding the write fonts to match the rhythm and the sound of the song. I wanted to base it off of musical instruments. The ‘t’ is meant to resemble musical notes, the ‘o’ is meant to represent the mouth and the the ‘m’ is meant to represent musical keys. this together worked harmoniously; and when placed in different spaces and proportions, made it even better. After my Mid-Project critique, I learnt that the white space around my image was to bold and it minimized the image. The solution for this was to add other elements in the border, which I did after. this made the image more complete and more interesting to look at.

Conclusion

If I had more time I wouldn’t change much. It was mentioned that the letter ‘m’ was overused. I may have explored other letters and fonts and replaced them if i had the opportunity.
