I found a lot of unique, abstract examples of net art and thought they were so interesting because net art is a different form of art. I recently wrote an essay in another class about the importance of art, obscurity, and creativity because it speaks louder than words or a particular standard/convention of art.
I really liked this piece of art specifically because it reminds me of a kaleidoscope, and whenever you press the cursor in different parts of the website, the colors and the shapes move around to create a very complex, yet simple mood. It also gives the user full control over what their experience will be, and what color motion or shape motion (or both combined) they want to see. It is a very creative, yet simple concept however I really like it and thought this was an interesting piece! Net Art should be more recognized like ‘regular’ art is.
The author, Raphael Rozendaal is one of the first visual artists to sell websites as art pieces, and is known for his abstract, interactive, and animated patterns. This is one of his pieces and his personality in his work definitely shows. He has his own taste and style and I appreciate that! Every art is unique and different in it’s own way.
P.S. – Instead of attaching screenshots, I thought to video the whole process of the website so as to show the correlation between moving the cursor and the changing of shape/color. Links below!
