Recitation 9: Final Project Process by Molly (Weiyi He)

Step 1

Ning Zhou: A driving setting that one holds a steering wheel to control his direction. The sketch on the screen would be his driving on routes with the scenery. Different settings could be chosen from. It’s like a driving simulation game.

–Feedback: Add more interaction devices other than a steering wheel. Probably with a tilt switch, she could design a shaft.

–Interesting points: It’s more a simulation than a game, so tranquility may arise when experiencing the scene. People tend to add layers of interaction to a project that includes more excitements and fun, but they may miss the opportunity to allow for a sense of “zen” and peace.

Robin: An interactive installation that is similar to VJ. People would have different devices to interact with to create music, with the screen showing computer-generated images that are related to the property of the music (pitch, volume, etc.)

–Feedback: Find various methods of controlling the music to add more fun to the interaction. Create splendid visual effects that trigger not only fun but also reflection, with profundity is even better.

–Interesting points: The interaction involves different senses: touch, sight, touch, and sound. And also different movements are involved to create different levels of interaction.

**(Forgot the name…): An assistive game that is designed to suit people of different disabilities. Such as a substitute for hand shank, there could be arm shank, foot shank or even body shank.

–Feedback: To ensure the stability of the reading of different sensors could be a problem. Need to think hard on the sensors and the form of assistive technology to take.

–Interesting points: The author is thinking about the well-being of disabled people. The normal people could stand in the disabled people’s shoes and consider the minorities that have long been forgotten.

Step 2

Feedback I received: 1)There is a library in Processing called motion detect that may help. 2)What is the difference between drawing on the sand and using motion detect and makes a robot to draw it draw on sand? Find the significance and distinction of the latter.

Most successful: The part of robot drawing on the sand is intriguing. Agree. But how to make it more interactive is to be considered. //Least successful: see feedback 2. Agree.
