In this project, the artist traveled around different sites in America, seeing some buildings which were abandoned former but were transferred into some useful buildings for the local sites later. In order to achieve the art and social research in this project, the artists met with the designers who made the transformation of the buildings. She kept researching the people who engaged in re-building the buildings. These people also traveled, and studied about the communities and urban design. For the opening pages, when the audience’s mouse puts on the photo, there comes up a line to connect with the photo and its location on the American map. When the audience clicks on it, he can go to another page to read about the information, including the ideas, interviews, and stories of re-building the abandoned buildings, and photo collected by the artists.
The reason why this project impressed me is that it makes me think about my comic project. In my comic project, we also made a website about housing research. We focus on the timeline of how the housing changes during the thousands of years, and their raw material. The idea of research and how the art and research combine with each other really inspired me a lot. I was curious about how art and research can be put together. Now I think this project in a really good case study for me to think about the combination of art and research.
