Link to our project: original: remix
The name of Evan’s and my project is called: Splish Splash.
Our inspiration was the natural sound of water around us, because it’s something that we often overlook. Everyone encounters water on a daily basis. So, all our sounds, including the music in the remix combines the sound of water. The focus and goal of this project was to create an interactive but also audio-centric webpage. In fact, we created two, but in the process, we weren’t able to link them to each other. At first, I tried to use the code for linking images from an older assignment.
The code for linking images is supposed to look something like this:
It never worked.
However, I realized if you opened up the links into two different windows, and split screen them, you were able to do a complete DJ session with the sound effects from the original webpage and the music elements of the remix webpage.
This is how it worked out to be. Talking more about the process, Evan was the one that recorded water sounds and manipulated the song and audio to sound how they sound. I believe that he did a good job in sourcing the audio. He also drew four of the images that appear in the original webpage. I, on the other hand, worked mostly on the effect of the code so that you’d be able to see a certain image when your mouse was within a certain area of the page. This couldn’t be done without the help of Tristan (thanks!). I also drew the squiggly lines for the remix page. Those four images were probably the easiest step of this audio project. They simply took some photoshop editing and a wacom tablet.
Post-mortem:
The content looks very simple and the concept is also very simple, I know! Just hover into a side of the screen and then you’ll be able to hear the audio while viewing the image. However, the process for getting this project in this shape takes a lot more than I thought in the beginning. I used math! I used algebra to figure out the slope of the respective hover areas. In conclusion, I think we got a very cool product, and to improve this project in the future would definitely be to link the two pages via an image on the page. I’m definitely proud of this final project, and I enjoyed making it.
