What interests me is Memo Akten’s project “Equilibrium”. It is presented on an interactive screen where the user can touch the screen to affect the motion of particles. And here are some screenshots of the project at some moment below.
The interesting thing I found here is the contradiction along with coherence in this system. Since it is easily affected by the outside factors like people’s touching, it is unstable. However, as it changes, it still maintains certain relation between the particles so that generally speaking, we can also consider it coherent. Moreover, even though it is randomly changes, most of the time it is still symmetric and seems to correspond with some rule.
As Akten says, the system’s behaviors can apply to many systems and finding the balance between harmony and chaos is just the common form of life.
