Week 11: Net Art Project – Chloe Chan

I chose this project because I really identified with it personally. The artist did a few aerial drawings of addresses in Singapore and allowed the user to click on different stars (which is really cool because it makes references to the Singaporean flags) in order to access the different aerial drawings of houses and homes in Singapore. What I really enjoyed about this website is how well thought out the website is in relation to the artistic content. I think that the website manages to emphasize and contextualize the content of the website.

This project was created by Heman Chong and includes 100 Aerial Drawings.

Internet Art Website

This net art website, called “Indirect Flights”,  was created by Joe Hamilton in 2015. It consists of various images of aerial views of places on the globe all collaged together in different ways (from shape to zoom, etc).  I really enjoyed this piece for the aesthetic, as well as its interactivity and how it allowed me to move around the site and see all of the different images Hamilton included!

This is what the site looks like! The images are all very different, going from natural scenes with water and greenery to industrial places with rusty metal and chain-link fences (this contrast is also really cool!)

Hamilton also included an option for certain sites on the website, where the user is directed to if they select one of the options from the menu (pictured above). This is a cool option for people who might want more direction in their exploration!!

Week 10: Internet Art Project – Murray Lu

http://www.staggeringbeauty.com/

I chose this website because I remember when I was in like the beginning of high school or late middle school, this website was really popular and people would reference it a lot. I also just thought that the character in the website was particularly interesting and mysterious as well.

Also if you move your mouse really quickly in the website, the character will start flashing (to the point that your eyes hurt, at least for me) and dramatic music will play out as well.

The website was created in 2012 by George Michael Brower and it because popular when famous YouTubers began including the website in their videos.

Week 10: Internet Art Project-Laura Huang

I searched on the monoskop website and looked through the artists. I found an artist names Burak Arikan, who is a media artist and focuses on the social economic issues in society. (https://burak-arikan.com/works/) The core element in his artwork is the relationship. He creates a lot of software, prints, installations to illustrate different relationships and networks between different industries, groups of people, political ideas and social topics. He also used different art forms to show the network, for example, the darkness of colors, the size of the circle, the moving pace of the elements or the distance in a 3D space. He even built a website which the users can create their own network graph and share with each other.

One net art he created is called “my pocket”, in which he records all the receipt and transaction in his daily life and accumulate them into transaction graphs and animations. He uses the thickness of the connecting lines to show the total spending amount and the relationship between the two purchases. I think it’s a very unique way to turn the small things and actions in our daily routines into arts and visual works. Here is the link: http://turbulence.org/Works/mypocket/graph/

Week 11: Net Art Project Blogpost – Ying

https://wimdelvoye.be

I found this website called Wim Delvoye that display artworks on the website. Its main page has this sim-city like background which I found interesting. It is interactive too and you can click on these building which will redirect you to an artwork that is related to the building. For example, if you click on the jewelry building, it will show you an artwork about jewelry.

This reminded me of the game that I played when I was very young its called sim-city. I love this game a lot so that’s why I love this background because it is so relatable to me.
