Recitatiton 4:Drawing machines-Andrew Xie

Introduction

 we will be creating drawing machines by using an H-bridge to control stepper motors attached to mechanical arms. And we raised the voltage to 12v to give stepper more power to drive the manipulator.

Step one

There are no difficulties in this step, but pay attention to the positive and negative directions of the h-bridge and whether the contact with the breadboard is good, because my h-bridge contact is poor and sometimes causes stepper to be unable to rotate.It should be noted that the wrong connection of the electronic components may cause kit to be burnt out.

Step two

In this step, it is necessary to plug the potentiometer into the circuit. However, due to my over-complicated circuit design, there is not enough space to install the potentiometer, and data needs to be modified on Arduino.Because the 42sth33-0404ac Stepper Motor is a 200 step Motor. So be sure to change the data from 150 to 200.And map is needed to define the scope.

Step 3

The third step is simply to assemble the arm and start the stepper with a partner, but it seems that the pen is not long enough to sometimes touch the paper. It was a wonderful feeling to see the Arduino and stepper paintings.

Question 1

If I can, I hope to build an AI brain and let it have the ability of autonomous deep learning. I wonder if robots will evolve their own self-awareness and hurt people.Just like the actuators, motors and others we have learned can provide the initial driving force, what will be the blood of robots in the future? The more advanced the actors, the more complex but powerful the interaction experience. Digital art is to achieve a higher goal through the interaction of different actors. It can meet the needs of human beings at a higher level and improve productivity.

Question 2

Among the reading materials, I like the shadow chaser most, in Chico macmurtrie / amorphic Robert works, the drumming and drawing subhuman, 2000. The artist uses computers to control robots with the shape of metal skeletons to beat drums, and further uses robots to express human situations or emotions. And actors to enhance the robot’s performance more subtly.It’s like the stepper on reception, which can play instruments by rotating to different angles, or motor, which can support robot walking. The more complex combination of drawing machine is the work of these artists.

Individual Reflection-Andrew Xie

First of all, according to the explanation on the Internet, Interaction should be defined as “interaction is a kind of action that occurs as two or more objects have an effect upon one another. ”(Wikipedia). As for me, I think the definition of interaction should include two aspects: one is the interaction between people, that is, information exchange through body language, etc.; the other is human-machine interaction, that is, human beings interact with machines to meet the needs of human beings, and machines serve human beings and maintain equal or lower status than human beings. As Crawford says in his post, ” we might speak of interactivity as high, moderate, low, or even zero, thus solving our problem with the subjective nature of interactivity.”(5)Higher interactive products can bring higher value to human beings.

The first project I chose was a game called Detroit: Become Human. Through this game, I had a deep understanding of the advanced form of human-computer interaction and how to deal with the status of both sides in an interactive relationship. Because we were discussing high-level interaction, the crisis of intelligence is the consequence caused by improper interaction.  It tells about the future Intellectual weapon crisis. When Android has a sense of autonomy, how do we define them and how they define themselves? This is an interactive game where players choose their own endings. During the demonstrations of Android, I must choose the way like violent resistance or peaceful marches, and express our aspirations for Android, they demanded equality and human rights. When I played this game, I was very confused. As an actor of Android, I don’t know how to guide them. Because as a human being, I don’t know if it’s time to treat conscious bionics as human beings. This game really makes me ponder. Perhaps for the greater good, I will treat them as human beings.

The second project I want to talk about is a world-changing invention, Iphone4, which has changed the way human-computer interaction is done, and brought artificial intelligence into mobile phones. Touch screen replaces mechanical buttons, so that people can see the real intelligent life, and lead the industry for at least two years.The iPhone redefines the mobile phone and the way of human-computer interaction. Unlike bionic humans, the iPhone has no soul and human nature.

Comparing the two, I think bionic people are a more advanced form of human-computer interaction, because bionic people not only have intelligent systems, but also have human thinking. It’s not like the iPhone just responds to human instructions. I believe that such bionic man will appear in the future, but it brings ethical problems, whether bionic man has life, and how to limit it with law and technology.The knowledge of the game helped me define interaction, which, although it may sound arrogant, is human-centered and cannot harm humans. In this aspect, the iPhone is obviously better, it guarantees the security, and thanks to the iOS system, the data protection becomes very safe.At the core of my definition is a machine that is highly interactive for most people and subject to human service, called interaction.

Group Project

My team and I have designed a wearable smart device called Let’s dance. In 100 years, people can learn efficiently through more interactive devices. This device can be used by teachers and students to learn by wearing different versions of the device. Through the device, students can make the same movements as the teacher. For those who want to learn dance but cannot follow the teacher’s movements well, they can imitate the movements efficiently. Not only does it dance, but the device can also. even remotely manipulate the body movements of others to achieve its goals, such as allowing doctors to perform operations remotely or soldiers to conduct operations remotely.But in order to prevent malicious manipulation of others, we designed a button in the helmet to stop the connection, which is also the inspiration I got from the bionic.From the iPhone, we think we need to establish a smooth user experience, through 6G and Bluetooth connection, and can achieve one-to-many, with belt, helmet, leg parts. In short, interaction should bring convenience and value to human beings.

Recitation3:Sensors-Andrew Xie

Introduction

In this week’s recitation, we have many options for building circuits based on different electronic components. I and my colleagues chose Infrared Distance Sensor and Ultrasonic ranger for assembly. In the whole process, we did not encounter any difficulties, on the contrary, we used the new electronic components in our hands to make interesting circuit series

Circuit One

We used Infrared Distance Sensor to do the first project, but compared with the next ultrasound, the accuracy is not very accurate. Perhaps infrared radiation received more interference, leading to data changes.

Circuit Two

Next, the focus of our work is on ultrasound, because we found through experiments that the accuracy of ultrasound is higher, and can measure more distances. With the change of map, we connect buzzer into the circuit. As the distance increases, the sound of buzzer becomes smaller and smaller.

It is worth mentioning that there are four ports of ultrasonic electronic components, and the two ports in the middle can not be separated for transmitting ultrasound and recovering echoes.

First, I chose Infrared Distance Sensor and Microranger on recitation. The ultrasonic range finder is connected with the buzzer in series, which makes the buzzer smaller with the distance between the palm and the ultrasound.If we complicate this circuit and use it in our daily life, I think the infrared range finder can be used to measure the distance between mountains. It will be widely used to measure long distance units. The workers of construction team will use infrared to measure the accuracy in front of building, or the subway shield machine will use infrared to express the accuracy when it is moving. Drive straight. Ultrasound can be used in mining, such as gold mining, or for medical purposes, to give the fetus B-mode ultrasound.

Because code operation needs to follow the order of operation, just like cooking, if you make a mistake or skip a step, it will affect the whole dish, or even not edible, the code is the same, even if a letter error will make the whole program confused, or even difficult to find errors, causing even greater loss.

After reading, I think that computers represent the great improvement of human productivity. Computers have become indispensable productivity tools. Without computers, there will be no network, and the world will return to the age of ignorance. The third revolution of science and technology represented by computers has brought human beings into the era of big data. The collection of various kinds of information has made human life more convenient, and at the same time, people’s information has become unsafe. Recitation 2:Arduino Basics -Andrew Xie

Introduction

Start by finding a partner to form a team of three circuits that use Arduino, the software you learned this week, to program and interact with electronic components. If there is time left, you can find other groups to connect the electronic components in parallel to allow four people to interact at the same time.

Circuit 1:Fade

The first circuit took the longest time for me and my partner, even though we originally thought it was the easiest. The problem is that the led light should have a fading effect, but actually it has been flashing without fade.

We first checked the code, and after the judgment of other guides, there was no problem with the code, and the circuit was not connected wrong, which wasted a lot of time to determine where the problem was.

Finally, we found a problem with Arduino Uno. During wiring, pin 13 was selected as the output terminal, but this port could only control such things as the volume increase or decrease, or the turn on and off of lights, but it could not control the gradual weakening. Eventually, we will change the output end to Pin9, this just succeeded in getting the fading effect on the led lights.

Circuit 2: toneMelody

Circuit 2 was very simple, but we still had regrets, because we thought the buzzer was too small, but we couldn’t make it louder, and the professor told us that it would damage the electronics.

Circuit 3: speed game

The third Circuit was very challenging for us. Because we thought that the installation method according to the design drawing would make the wiring messy and ugly, we redesigned it to make the circuit more beautiful in a symmetrical way, which, of course, cost us more time.

During assembly, we found that one of the buttons didn’t work, and we haven’t figured out why so far.

Due to time constraints, we did not make Circuit 4, but we found other team members to play the game together, which is undeniably difficult.

The thing that impressed me most in general was that the output was Pin9, which is responsible for controlling the power and strength. Yiji’s regret about recitation is that we still don’t understand why one of the buttons doesn’t work after we redesigned the circuit.

I think the word “interaction” should be the form between people and machines. When people interact with machines, such as mobile phones, remote controllers, etc., it can be a process of data input and transmission. For example, when I press the button first, the LED light on my side will turn on, and because the light on indicates that I win. Having won the game, this is the simplest interaction. Or a remote control. When I switch channels with a remote control, the TV receives my instructions and changes channels. The significance of interaction lies in the transmission of information to meet human needs.

The 10K resistor protects the Circuit from burning out or short-circuiting the electronic components and adapts the Circuit by raising or lowering the resistance. And when the number is entered, if there is no resistance, the current itself will not determine which circuit it should go to, which will interfere with the circuit or worse.

Q3

I like the Cyberpunk style very much. If I have 100,000 led lights, I will make them into very fancy billboards, using different colors to give people a sense of technology in the future. Shanghai is the most prosperous city in China, and the Bund is the most famous scenic spot. I hope to put these billboards on the skyscrapers of the Bund to make Pudong more energetic and technological. And the Bund is very close to NYUSH. I hope I can see those billboards at school.

Documentation about first interaction lab recitation (dx444)

  First of all, in the first section recitation, we should learn to be familiar with various electronics entities, and learn how to use electronics to build the circuits with our partners. After this class, we successfully built Circuit 1: Door Bell, Circuit 2: Lamp, and Circuit 3: Dimmable Lamp on a breadboard.

Here are the electronic components we will be using.

Our first task was to use electronic components for Door bell.

Start by plugging in the breadboard. It’s not hard to do, but we have a problem connecting the Voltage Regulator.

Although it is easy to see from the picture that the no. 2 connectors should be connected to the ground wire, it is quite confusing to me in actual operation, because it is easy to confuse the wiring sequence on the breadboard and make mistakes, which leads to the chaos of the breadboard wires, so that we need to clean all the original parts to start over.

With assistant’s help, we finally connected the circuits,Connecting the speaker to the capacitor is simple, as long as the positive and negative electrodes are aligned. Just as we were happily plugged in, the problem arose. Generally speaking, as we use push-button Switch, the speaker only makes a sound when we press the button. However, when we turn on the power, the speaker keeps ringing, which indicates that the Switch is not connected in the right way, resulting in the Switch becoming a wire. It used to be that the switch should be connected longitudinally to form a closed circuit, but we connected the switch horizontally, so that the current did not pass through the intersection of the switch, but flowed through one side, becoming a pure circuit. The following video is a good record of our failure and success in switching.

Next, we’ll go to another classroom to learn how to solder,and then we soldered long wires to an arcade button. The whole production process is very simple, just take care not to touch the welding pen tip with your hands, and when removing the rubber part at both ends of the wire, it should be longer, or it will be difficult to plug into the bread plate, because we did not realize this, it was very difficult to carry out the experiment later.

Since our Arcade Button metal section was too short to be plugged into the breadboard, we replaced it with a pushbutton Switch for later projects.

Circuit 2: Lamp is much easier to make after the first experience. Before installation, we tested the resistance to avoid damaging the electronic components.

Circuit 3: in Dimmable Lamp it is important to note that the positive and negative electrodes of the led are not confused with Potentiometer and the resistor protection Circuit is used. After the first failure, it becomes easier to wire for potentiometer.

Let me conclude with a brief summary of recitation. First of all, I had a deeper impression of each electrical component, especially how I impressed the Voltage Regulator more deeply. And there wasn’t enough space left in the Arcade Button to make it usable on the breadboard. But overall it was very successful, and I learned to keep taking pictures and videos of my projects so that I could document my failures and successes and provide useful lessons for the future.

When I finished reading the article and combined with the circuit installation on recitation, I thought that interaction was first embodied in human-human interaction, such as assigning tasks by professors, explaining how to use electronic components, and then interaction with peers, such as welding switches and completing projects together. Secondly, the interaction is reflected in the interaction between people and electronic components, such as doorbell devices, by pressing the switch we can control speaker to make sound, and then later we can make light-emitting diodes flicker. Finally, the interaction embodies in people, people and electronic components, no matter which way, it reflects a high degree of interaction, which is beyond doubt.
