Introduction:This is an art project introducing the Ho Family Garden. I choose this because the way the artiest present it is quite special. He introduced the garden base on the order of what the tourist see, for example he first introduce the gate of the garden then the first door the visitors can see when they go into the garden, I like this because it gave me a sense that I am experiencing the whole tour. The audio is also great, giving the introduction when turning into a new page.

What aspect inspire me:1. The order of the art work is great, just like a tour guide introducing the garden to us.

2.The video is great, it is showing the whole scene in that place and gave the audience a full view of that scene, gave me a sense that I am actually viewing the whole scene.(Consider the view from the audience)

3.The following audio is also great, helping to get a better understanding of the whole scene.(just like a tour guide is talking, audio is needed to give a introduction and to help the audience better understand the project)

Understanding about media art: It need to integrate with the audience and let the audience take part in the art project. It can’t be just showing the artwork to the audience but should consider the audience as part of the project while also how the audience will feel or what is the reaction should also be considered when designing the project. This project let the audience click to choose whether hearing or not hearing the introduction to the place while also choosing whether or not to view the next place, which I think is great, the artist consider the reader’s feeling. I think this part the artist is doing great but the way he is showing is a bit too simple, next time he can make a map so that the audience can choose where they can go.

The idea:

Jamie came to the idea and it is about even though you change the factors of some point but the result still not change. We discussed about the details of the plot, then we decided to make three scenarios. One is eating the fish, one is help cheating or not, the last one is jumping or not. Nan and Jamie finished the conversation part, then Jamie and I started drawing the story board.

This made the filming process easier.

The filming part:

We set off early and go to the Huangpu river to do this. I first go to film the walking part with Jamie, then I do some part of the acting.We really have fun when we doing the filming. Here is some photos we testing the machine and when we are filming. We asked the owner of the dog to let us film the dog in the video for a while. We also let the fish owner be our actor to make the whole scenarios looks close to life.

The website:

Jamie do the cutting of the film and Nan and I do the coding part. During this part, I found that lots of video cannot be loaded into the webpage also the size and the position need to be change, I seeked help during this process and finally made it. Also, I made the css but I found that in different size of the computer the size of some video can be too large and some can be too small, next time I will arrange the css better to make it suit into every size of the computer. After finding the autoplay don’t work, I made all the video into clicking the screen then it will play so the chrome can also play it.

The final looking of the webpage:

We made the button  jumped out using the time count function so that the user can easily see the button when it come out. 

We added the background movie so that it looks attracting or it will looks black and seems boring.

At the end of it we added the sources we used in this video.

The first thing touches me in the talk is to record or write something that is closely related to your own lives which will be more vivid and more impressive. The second thing which touches me most is the stereotype. We cannot judge someone or something based on where they are from and where they live. We need to observe someone to draw a conclusion. Places changes and they don’t always stay in the same way. Also. we can’t get entirely rely on what we told in books. Something in the book don’t fit the actual condition. Last thing is that reflect the culture is really impressive and maybe is the greatest way to reach the audience’s heart. Also, one group may have different identities. The object have many things to be observed and needs our own observation. This also help to reach the equality between people. If you don’t fully understand the person you may draw some wrong conclusion. Maybe they have a good lives but you thought they are poor and show their your empathy which harms the dignity. Also, I think this idea is good and needs to be wide spread to people through the media.

We tried to record the sound in our lives which is closely related to our daily lives. We can hear these sound quite often in our lives and it is impressive. We two both have the same idea which is to record some sound around.Each of us choose two place to record the sound which is representative of our lives in NYU Shanghai. We discussed the places and all agreed on these places. Madi recorded the park and the bar, I recorded the cafe and music used by the dancing ladies. I also recorded the introduction part to let the listeners have a clearer understanding of our project. Madi worked on the css part, and I mainly do the js part. You can click on the introduction button and the listen button to hear the introduction part, we record the sound of ourselves. You can click on the four button bellow the map to see and hear each scenarios. We want our audience to have a clear understanding of why we choose these place so we added the subtitles. We also lay some sound together to let it have a good effect. I think what we can do better is to better organize the elements and let the users don’t need to slip to see all the elements.

In music and other video, we can often see cultural appropriation. It’s quite attractive to see two culture appear at the same time and it is also quite difficult to make good use of cultural appropriation suit into the whole piece. Because cultures are different from objects to deeper ideological thing, so to use cultural appropriation in the video, maybe the author needs to find the similarities of the two cultures. I think Beyonce did a great job, she add the India culture factors in it and it suit good to her whole music. Also, I don’t think it’s a way of theft. I think it’s a way of admiring and also spreading another different culture. She worn the traditional costume to admire the whole culture. Also, cultural appropriation in the music can spread culture to a wider field because music are favored by many people. In my view, if cultural appropriation can suit in the music , the author can use it.
