Response to Week10: StarryNight (Vivian)

The StarryNight Project created by Alex, Mark and Martin is a 1990s historical one that when I opened it, the Windows 98 interface reminded me of my childhood experience of playing with the computer.  Frankly speaking, I got a little bit confused when I initiated this project at the very beginning, as I didn’t understand the meaning of the starry night and the pop-up windows of each star (when mouse is moved over it) showing chunks of messages from people I didn’t recognize. Yet after I read the introduction after, I got fascinated by the idea. It seems the artists want to archive the shining ideas exposed through art exploration. The starry night is the data pool, with wonderful ideas glittering inside. Just like the last sentence of the introduction writes, “StarryNight is both a classic work of information aesthetics and a rich portrait of Rhizome’s early online community”. I really like it.
