My academic training focused on computer code and software as materials for the arts. My research (and teaching) interests have continued to revolve around using these materials, both in practice and theory, for conceptual works that reflect their own inner workings, their relationship to humans and social issues, and their own unique possibilities.
I am interested in the practices and politics around participatory culture such as in the Free and Open Source software sphere, and the theory and practice of Free and Open Source software and knowledge continues to inform my work and thinking.
My personal art practice can be described as a conceptually-driven, studio-based examination of the technological present with an emphasis on computation. I use various media, in combination with design and a close reading of technical systems and infrastructure, in order to make art that functions both discursively as well as visually.
