Yunyi Wang | 肉林 [Woods of Flesh]: Exploring Eco-Feminism with Alternative Ecologies of Pelvis-Nature Hybrids

 
肉林 [Woods of Flesh] is an alternative ecology constructed with plant-woman hybrid, an organic architecture where the power relationships and body politics between nature and women are distorted via installation, soundscape, and performance. The installation consists of a tufting medium that is interactive and encourages touching, meditation and sound. I want to create a space of empathy and symbiotic. A place where the unseen can be seen, and the silenced can be heard – a principle inspired by an eco-feminist parallel relationships between the exploited nature and oppressed woman. The soundscape is sampled from field recordings and audio stories collected in Tibet, a place where the temporal and spatial relationships between nature and human, birth and death are fused. Pelvis, perhaps the most overlooked secondary sex characteristic, is a key element in this project, widening as a woman grows, tearing when she reproduces, and decaying when she returns to the soil. This “palace” nurtures balance and renewal of a micro ecology inside a woman’s body. By meditating with me and interacting with woods of flesh, you become part of the ecology by altering the soundscape with your body, mind, and motion.
