Carnival Mirror – Group Research Project

3. Rehearsal

After we finished the crafting, we started on our rehearsal for the performance, while shyness could be one of the few commonalities for our group members (we have a diverse group!). None of us had any acting experiences either. Even though we had already assigned the role of each person and wrote the lines and designed the plot, we just kept laughing at ourselves or just suddenly stopped acting due to embarrassment. Michelle was not one of us – she had always been the best actress in our group.

Because the artifact of our group was not very “high-tech” or “intelligent,” it is vital that our performance narrates and explains its functions and the stories clearly and engagingly. Exaggeration could be used here. As said we got a shy group, and the only way we overcame this was by practicing. Some minor adjustment of roles was also made (Maggie and I switched). We first practiced individually, then in pairs (a viewer + the reflection), and finally all together. We designed and rehearsed the plot, conversations, and positioning well. Everything eventually got so much better.
