  • Why this form?
    • Deepfake as a makeup tutorial
    • Deepfake vs deception: Deepfake essentially stands for “deep learning” and “fake”. When I think of deepfake, the word fake really stands out to me. No matter what intention one has while using this technology, the synthetic media outputs will always be fabricated and not real. This makes me wonder in the future if advanced deepfake could generate hyper-realistic media that is impossible to discern, will it still be considered as a form of deception? If the generated media could essentially replace reality, will it still be fake?
    • Makeup: There’s a constant debate about whether makeups are a form of deception. The word make-up is originated from the idea of building, preparing, and bringing things together. By 1808, make-up is referenced to actors preparing for impersonating a role including dress and the painting of the face. Makeup as “appearance of the face and dress” slowly developed to the idea of “cosmetics”, which became a form of enhancement, self-expression, and representation of beauty standards.
