For this project, I am inspired by the animator and illustrator Scott Jonsson. He made a tutorial/time-lapse workflow of his use of After Effects for animation. I love his style and how three-dimensional it looks so I decide to make my own version. I first created my own character in Procreate, put it in After Effects, and retrace it with the pen tool. Then I reset the anchor points for each body part and parented it to their corresponding joints. After that, I animated the character frame by frame, moving and retracing the shapes, which gave me this 3-second animation. The process is extremely miserable and I highly recommend not trying for beginners like me.
I know it would be impossible for me to continue with this style for the rest of the animation, so I fused this with some of the abstract works I made for my 100 days projects using the Trapcode plugin. I made the astronaut travel in space through portals, visiting different scenes and worlds. The result of mixing these distinctive styles in one single animation is quite successful, and I am quite happy with that.
