Concept
This digital narrative installation is set inside a trash can. In order to watch the video, viewers need to look into the bin, which they normally wouldn’t even consider doing. The concept is based on the idea of commercialism, reflecting on the massive waste and environmental impact caused by commercialization. The food we see in the store with lavish packaging would eventually end up in the trash can. The splendid clothing and overpriced fashion pieces we desire would be obsolete and thrown out one day. Even luxury sportscars would be junked and destroyed at the end of the day. Also, by contrasting brand-new commodities with the idea of trash, I aim to provoke a reflection on our own existence. After all, we as humans would end up dead in a “bin” just like the dead fish in the tank. Nature would not care.
