Damon’s meeting journal:
Participants: Yan He, Yue Li, Winny, Tina, Thomas
Time: 4:00pm to 4:32 pm Sept. 25.
Purpose: first interview, problems in the cafeteria
What I learned about the community partner/Problems:
- Long working hours 6:30 am-8:00 pm without any entertainment
- Napkin waste – One box of 24 packages per day
- Reusable cups found in trash cans – were disinfected and put into use again, 3k cups purchased last November but now only 1k left
- Cups and dining plates missing
- School staffs and professors prefer food take-out with paper made packing box and plastic utensils
- The juice cups in B1 cafeteria are plastic made
What else happened at the meeting? What did you notice?
- Other Sproutworks places follow the hygiene regulations/rules that exist at NYU shanghai because it’s more strict
- B1 cafeteria has a storage room for collecting recyclable materials. Cleaning ladies go to pick them up every few days
- 2 hours before and after each meal for preparation and cleanup
What I would like to learn more about and how to find out?
- How do we lighten their work loads?
- What is a good way to inform students and staff members to not waste napkins and plastic cups?
