Photo Diptych Concept
This is a song that fits my main concept very well
The overall concept of the Diptych is the transmission from a black-and-white world to a colorful world. In most people’s life, they are busy working, for keeping pace with an extremely fast pace of life. On the street, the most common sight is the sight of people rushing to all directions. Many people have no emotion on their faces, and there is not a lot of light in their eyes. Mediocre and monotonous is a depiction of their everyday life. If it is expressed in color, it must only be black and white. However, I believe that behind their tired faces is a heart that is beating fervently. In their inner world, they are still in high spirits and can still shine. Also, in their inner corners, they are also happily experiencing their own lives. In order to describe this kind of inner paradise, I want to use various colors to contrast black and white to form a contrast, highlighting the colorful fantasy wonderland in people’s hearts.
One reason that I choose to design the conflict between colorful and black-and-white is that after learning the color, I get more familiar with the certain emotions that different colors represent, as a result, I want to use the different emotions of different colors settings to create my photo diptych. This main inspiration is triggered by a scene from a movie. In the movie The Wizard of Oz, the main character Dorothy opened a door and She travels from a faded film strip to a Technicolor world.
For the two photos, there are several main elements that I want to include: An eye reflected in a hand mirror; colorful pigments; and most importantly, the kaleidoscopes. To build the connection between the two images, I want to make the original image fade into black-and-white color, and another one to be brightly colorful. The main connection between the two pictures will be formed by the use of kaleidoscopes. If it is possible, I want to project kaleidoscope patterns on the wall, and the patterns will appear in both of the two images, the difference will be that in the first one the patterns are black-and-white while the patterns in the second one are colorful. Another element that I want to include in my diptych is the use of pigments. In the first picture, I want to put the pigments under the eyes to resemble the tears since in the first picture there isn’t any color. But in the second image, I want to add the element on the top edge of the image to represent the “tears” that are dropped from the upper image. In this image, the pigments are colorful, and the pigments form the colorful patterns of the kaleidoscope.
As a result, the images that I want to take about the eyes are reflected by the mirrors, and in the scene, there are also kaleidoscopes that appear, both the patterns and the real items.
As for the use of photoshop, I will certainly use the function of changing the colors to make the colors more vivid and more dreamlike. And I will also use the matting and collage functions to add the element of the pigments and the projections of the kaleidoscope patterns. For other tools, I am not quite sure at the moment. But after learning Photoshop, maybe I can discover more tools and functions to better manipulate my diptych.
