Color 1

For the first set of colors, I use yellow green blue, and orange. The main inspiration is from a picture of a rainy and moist night, the reflection of the street lamps is shown in the ponds created by the previous rain. This scene let me get a feeling of quietness but warmth, which can be explained by the feeling when a person is going back home tiredly, but when thinking that someone is waiting for him/her, then he/she feels quite warm.

The second set of colors represents the hot summer when people are enjoying coconuts and pineapples beside a blue ocean and sunny sky. The feeling will include both happiness and relaxation brought by the summer vacation.

The third set of colors represents the painting of Monet’s oil painting “Water Lilies”. The desaturated colors give me a sense of quietness and elegance, which helps me to calm down when I feel irritable.

The fourth set of colors includes highly saturated red, orange, yellow and green. I saw this series of colors in a gallery. I went to this gallery alone in cold winter. But the highly saturated colors brought me a sense of warmth and also lit my eyes with a colorful world even it was a cold and dim winter.

The colors of the fifth set are picked from a photo that I took the year before last year in Chongqing. It was taken at “Jiaotong Chaguan”, an old and underground teahouse that was full of the urban atmosphere. Since it is under the ground and the lights are dark, the colors of this place are also dark and they give me a feeling of dampness and dizziness. So I choose these dark green colors to represent the general environment, the dark red as old-fashioned water bottles and khakee as the yellow lights.

The sixth set of colors is inspired by another oil painting Ophelia, the major colors that are used in this painting are green and brown, expressing a feeling of stifling, heavy and stagnant. The main character drowned in a river in the green forest, which also gives me a sense of sadness.

The seventh set of colors are mainly bright and warm colors, these colors represent a picture that in the late autumn season, the ginkgo leaves in front of the red wall have turned golden, giving people a kind of autumn beauty, which makes me feel the joy of harvest and the comfort brought by cool weather.

The eighth set of colors is mainly dreamlike colors since purple and blue colors are taking the lead. This set of colors reminds me of the mysteriousness and dizziness brought by the parties and also the universe. This set of colors also has a characteristic of cyberpunk.

The ninth set of colors is picked from a dancing program called: 只此青绿, and the Chinese traditional dance is based on the painting “A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains” by the painter Wang Ximeng in the Northern Song Dynasty. The combination of these colors presents a magnificent landscape, which brings a sense of tranquility but solemnity.

The last set of colors is inspired by the warm and colorful Moroccan landscape. The conflict between bright blue and bright orange shows the enthusiasm and boldness of local people and local culture, and the other two colors represent the tropical plants and tropical scenery.
